I trained as a music therapist in 1976 with Juliette Alvin at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London and since then have worked, both in practice and as a researcher, with children and adults with wide-ranging healthcare needs. I began teaching music therapy students in 1980 at the Guildhall School and more recently at the University of the West of England, Bristol where I am currently Emeritus Professor in Music Therapy. I am a registered music therapist with the HCPC.

I trained In GIM with Dr Kenneth Bruscia, obtaining the Fellowship of the Association for Music and Imagery (AMI) in 1999 and becoming a Primary Trainer in 2006. I was a founding member of the European Network of GIM (ENGIM) and am both a European Association of Music and Imagery (EAMI) registered GIM therapist and trainer. Please see my website for details of selected publications, biography, and conference presentations.

In 2022 I will be opening a converted private space (restrictions permitted) with a separate entrance at my new home on the South coast in Seaford, East Sussex, to be used specifically for individual GIM and supervision sessions. At this stage in my evolving practice, I am particularly interested in the use of GIM for personal growth, connections with spirituality and creativity.

I have been an HCPC registered music therapist since 2008. I have experience working as a music therapist in various settings, both with children and adults. I am a member of EAMI, AMI and BAMT. I have done further studies in the continuum model of Guided Imagery and Music. I hope to use the continuum model to help people improve their well-being by using creative arts. I use GIM in my current work with adolescents in a secondary school with children with emotional and behavioural issues. I hold a private GIM practice offering online and face-to-face sessions in Southeast London , for people seeking to understand their attitudes and ways of being. I have finished my training on the Supportive Music and Imagery Model and Music Breathing. However, I am still in the process of completing my qualifications on the Re-educative Model and the Bonny Method of Guided Imagery and Music.

I am an HCPC registered music therapist of more than 20 years experience, working with people of all ages and abilities. I currently lead a team of therapists working with adults with disabilities, and run a private supervision, music therapy and GIM practice for people with mental health issues, stress and trauma, both in person and online.

I work with a compassionate, trauma informed approach towards the client's self development and healing process, and also support people who wish to explore, deepen and understand their spiritual life, in whatever form that may take. My approach to GIM is also informed by my experiences as an orchestral musician, studies with the Centre for Applied Jung, and mandala training with Suzanne Fincher and Marilyn Clark, and I incorporate mandala making into the processing of sessions to support and aid insights. I work in London and Stroud, Gloucestershire.

I trained as a music therapist at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama with Juliette Alvin and in Psychodynamic Music Therapy with Mary Priestley, qualifying in both in 1978.  Marilyn Clark was my primary trainer for GIM and I became a Fellow in 1995. I now work solely with GIM.  I am an assistant trainer on Martin Lawes’ Integrative GIM Training Programme and I offer supervision to GIM trainees.  My interest in Jung lead me to have a Jungian analysis in the 1980’s and to do the MA in Jungian and Post Jungian Studies in 2012 at the Centre for Psychoanalytic Studies, Essex University.  I title my work ‘Imaginal Knowing’, and that is my aim for all.

I am a music therapist and psychodynamic counsellor/ psychotherapist. I am registered with the HCPC, and am an accredited member of BACP and EAMI. I have practised extensively within both disciplines, and have wide experience in the field of mental health. In addition to my therapy work, I also offer supervision to music therapists and counsellors.

I am particularly interested in each person’s individual journey within GIM. By inviting experiences from our deeper layers of consciousness, we become more in touch with our inner worlds, and able to discover new insights. I integrate music therapy and verbal psychotherapy to support this process of exploration in GIM.

I offer sessions in Edinburgh. Please email me if you would like further information.
