I trained as a music therapist in 1976 with Juliette Alvin at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London and since then have worked, both in practice and as a researcher, with children and adults with wide-ranging healthcare needs. I began teaching music therapy students in 1980 at the Guildhall School and more recently at the University of the West of England, Bristol where I am currently Emeritus Professor in Music Therapy. I am a registered music therapist with the HCPC.

I trained In GIM with Dr Kenneth Bruscia, obtaining the Fellowship of the Association for Music and Imagery (AMI) in 1999 and becoming a Primary Trainer in 2006. I was a founding member of the European Network of GIM (ENGIM) and am both a European Association of Music and Imagery (EAMI) registered GIM therapist and trainer. Please see my website for details of selected publications, biography, and conference presentations.

In 2022 I will be opening a converted private space (restrictions permitted) with a separate entrance at my new home on the South coast in Seaford, East Sussex, to be used specifically for individual GIM and supervision sessions. At this stage in my evolving practice, I am particularly interested in the use of GIM for personal growth, connections with spirituality and creativity.

I am a music therapist and psychodynamic counsellor/ psychotherapist. I am registered with the HCPC, and am an accredited member of BACP and EAMI. I have practised extensively within both disciplines, and have wide experience in the field of mental health. In addition to my therapy work, I also offer supervision to music therapists and counsellors.

I am particularly interested in each person’s individual journey within GIM. By inviting experiences from our deeper layers of consciousness, we become more in touch with our inner worlds and able to discover new insights. I integrate music therapy and verbal psychotherapy to support this process of exploration in GIM.

I offer sessions in Edinburgh, Wellspring Scotland. Please email me if you would like further information.
